The importance of professional language services

“Your grammar is a reflection of your image. Good or bad, you have made an impression. And like all impressions, you are in total control.”  – Jeffrey Gitomer

In my career, I have encountered many misconceptions when it comes to using a professional language service provider:

“I’m only writing a resume, it’s not that important. There are templates on the internet.”

“This is just a small company, we have a guy at the office who took a marketing class in high school, he can probably write the ads. “

“No one will read my company web page anyway.”

Nowadays it is easy to use an online translator, ask some old friend to check the grammar, wipe together just something on the website in a hurry or burst out a quick Facebook advertisement without thinking it further. The fact is, the online tools and old friends may provide a quick help, but when you are aiming at focused, personalized communication, the Google translator won’t take you far.

Let’s take a look at a couple of examples.

Would you hire a person, whose cover letter looked something like this?

Or would you buy a house from a real estate agent on the basis of this advertisement?

Well, I didn’t think so. Even though the audience might understand fairly well the point of the text, the sloppy grammar and poor delivery don’t make much of an impression.

Everytime you send out a message, you also tell a story of who you are and what you can do. No matter how good and reliable worker that applicant would be, or if the agent could actually close down sales in minutes – no one will know – because the readers think: “Hey, if he can’t write down a few sentences,  how can he manage his business?”

A good, clear message is a sign that you care about the recipient and you have made an effort to tell the people how good you are. We all have great ideas and visions in our minds, but sometimes it is difficult to put them down on paper – maybe it is because we don’t have the time or we just can’t find the right words.

Hiring a professional to help you with the text is just the same as we hire a plumber to fix the pipes or book a singer to perform at a wedding, instead of doing it ourselves. A professional will help you put together your ideas and make sure your message goes out as intended.
